History

In 1996 a group of community members came together to design, fund, build and support a teen drop-in center for the 1700+ youth in Westbrook. The center was created in response to a drug and alcohol survey that was given to Westbrook’s youth. The founding board was made up of local businessmen, church members, teachers, parents and teens who wanted to create a place available to all teens, regardless of socio-economic status or background.

Designed by a 21-member Teen Advisory Board, the 7000 square foot center opened in May of 1998 after $116,000 in renovations were completed in the teen center space in the Dana Warp Mill on Bridge Street. Thirty-six businesses donated 90% of that cost in the form of labor and materials and over 400 community members attended the grand opening.

Since then MPTC has operated continuously to provide youth with a much needed fun and safe space to hang out. In the spring of 2004, the agency moved to a new location at 755 Main Street where we now reside. We stand by our mission and continue to provide much needed services to the youth of this community. We work hard to make sure that all of our youth feel respected and supported, and are given opportunities to flourish and grow in a positive environment.
